Overview
Mel Tull for Congress is seeking a full-time Campaign Manager to oversee and execute the daily operations of a Democratic congressional campaign in Virginia’s existing 1st District or proposed 5th District. This position will serve as the campaign’s primary staff role and will work directly with the candidate to manage all aspects of campaign operations, field activity, scheduling, and communications.
This is a hands-on, district-based role for a highly organized and dependable individual who can manage details, meet deadlines, and ensure the campaign operates in a disciplined and professional manner throughout the cycle.

Mel Tull is a veteran, business attorney, and community leader running for Congress to bring integrity, accountability, and practical leadership to Washington.
The Campaign Manager will play a central role in shaping daily priorities, coordinating campaign activity, and ensuring that the candidate’s time and resources are used effectively.
Position Summary
The Campaign Manager is responsible for coordinating and executing all core aspects of the campaign’s day-to-day operations. This includes ballot access and signature collection, scheduling and event coordination, voter contact efforts, volunteer management, communications support, and internal organization.
The ideal candidate is comfortable wearing multiple hats, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and can operate independently while maintaining clear communication with the candidate.
The Campaign Manager will also support the campaign’s fundraising efforts by managing call time logistics and ensuring consistent follow-up, while the candidate remains the primary fundraiser.
This is not a remote or advisory role. The Campaign Manager is expected to maintain a consistent on-the-ground presence in the district and actively participate in campaign activities.
Core Responsibilities
Campaign Operations & Administration
- Oversee and manage the daily operations of the campaign
- Maintain internal systems for organization, task tracking, and deadlines
- Monitor key campaign timelines, including ballot access and compliance-related dates
- Serve as the primary point of contact for campaign vendors and volunteers
- Ensure consistent follow-through on campaign priorities and commitments
Ballot Access & Signature Collection
- Coordinate and track all petition and signature collection efforts
- Develop and implement a plan to meet ballot access requirements and deadlines
- Recruit, schedule, and manage volunteers for signature gathering
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to petitioning
Scheduling & Candidate Support
- Manage the candidate’s daily, weekly, and long-term calendar
- Schedule campaign events, meetings, fundraisers, and public appearances
- Prepare the candidate for events with logistics, talking points, and objectives
- Attend campaign and community events alongside the candidate as needed
- Ensure the candidate’s time is used efficiently and strategically
Field & Voter Contact
- Oversee door-knocking and voter contact programs
- Recruit, coordinate, and manage volunteers for canvassing and outreach
- Track voter contact metrics and field progress
- Identify opportunities to expand the campaign’s visibility and voter engagement
Fundraising Support & Call Time
- Manage the candidate’s fundraising call time schedule and daily discipline
- Prepare call sheets and track donor conversations and follow-ups
- Coordinate with compliance support to ensure accurate tracking and reporting
- Help prioritize donor outreach in coordination with overall campaign goal
Communications & Press
- Assist with drafting and distributing press releases and campaign communications
- Maintain and update media and press lists
- Coordinate media outreach and follow-up
- Support message discipline across campaign materials and public appearances
- Coordinate with email and digital vendors as necessary
Qualifications
- Prior campaign or political experience strongly preferred
- Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Professional judgment and discretion when working with press, volunteers, and stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and meet deadlines
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required by the campaign schedule
- Familiarity with Democratic campaigns and values preferred
- Prefer knowledge of NGP VAN and ActBlue
Compensation
This is a paid, full-time position. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
