The Game-Changer that IREX Seeks
IREX seeks a seasoned Chief Growth Officer (CGO) with a proven record of personally leading and scaling diversified revenue engines and positioning mission-driven organizations for long-term sustainability and independence.
- Serve as a key member of the Executive Team
- Provide strategic counsel to the President & CEO
Success in this role requires shifting IREX from grant-dependent thinking to a diversified, entrepreneurial growth model, while maintaining strong mission and customer focus.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, international development, or a related field
- MBA or master's degree strongly preferred
- 1015 years of experience in fundraising, business development, or revenue generation
- Minimum of 7 years in senior executive leadership roles
- Proven ability to achieve ambitious growth targets via integrated, enterprise-level strategy
- Deep experience positioning organizations in competitive or crowded markets
- Exceptional ability to cultivate and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Strong financial acumen across funding models, pricing, cost structures, and long-term sustainability planning
Preferred Experience
- Direct experience working in international development or nonprofit organizations
- Familiarity with U.S. Government funding and grant-making
- Experience with digital transformation and/or technology-enabled growth
- Experience partnering with Boards/Executives on growth strategy and fundraising
- Possession of an established network of funders, partners, or collaborators
The Opportunity
The Chief Growth Officer (CGO) is a newly created executive role that will drive IREX's future growth and be a cornerstone of its long-term sustainability and independence.
The CGO also leads the Catalyst Hub, one of IREX's three primary organizational hubs, and owns an enterprise-wide growth strategy. The Catalyst Hub includes the New Business Development Unit, Strategic Partnerships, and Strategic Initiatives, and will be able to tap into talent across IREX, providing the CGO with an experienced team capable of advancing ambitious growth objectives from day one.
Operating through IREX's Strategic Initiatives and a proactive "push model," the CGO positions the organization in new markets, cultivates new funding relationships, and accelerates revenue diversification beyond traditional USG funding.
This is a build-and-lead role with broad influence across the organization. The CGO is ultimately accountable for achieving the ambitious goals of raising new funds while diversifying to 35% non-USG revenue by 2030.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Growth & Revenue
- Develop and execute growth strategies aligned with IREX's 2040 Ambition
- Identify, test, and scale new revenue streams across institutional, corporate, individual, and earned-income sources
- Oversee strategic initiatives that position IREX in new and emerging markets
- Set and achieve ambitious revenue targets, including 35% non-USG revenue by 2030
Business Development & Partnerships
- Oversee U.S. Government and non-USG business development
- Build and manage relationships with a broad range of external stakeholders
- Move beyond grantor-grantee models to position us as an essential solution partner
Customer Impact, Communications & Thought Leadership
- Oversee customer impact and communications in support of growth and CEO's agenda
- Lead external thought leadership and innovation initiatives
- Guide re-branding and customer impact positioning to expand awareness among new audiences
Leadership & Executive Partnership
- Collaborate with the Executive Team to drive revenue growth aligned with IREX 2040 Ambition and enable market-facing pricing and costing tools and mechanisms
- Build, lead and mentor the Catalyst Hub team
- Foster an entrepreneurial, results-oriented culture across the organization
- Collaborate closely with executive peers and the Center of Technical Excellence
- Shape a culture of agility that advances initiatives with purpose, speed, and results
- Integrate technical expertise effectively into revenue growth and diversification efforts
- Ensure strong customer focus across all strategic initiatives
