Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented compliance attorney with 4–6 years of legal experience, specifically in the tax-exempt organization sector. This role will ensure our organization and its clients comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies at the local, state, and federal levels. You will play a key role in risk management, reporting, and supporting ethical organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance: Ensure ongoing compliance with IRS regulations (including 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) requirements), federal and state fundraising laws, lobbying restrictions, and grant-making regulations.
Risk Management: Identify legal risks and provide proactive solutions; advise on risk mitigation strategies across client programs.
Contract Review: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, MOUs, grant agreements, and partnership documents to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with finance and program teams to support compliant operations.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $160,000 - $200,000, commensurate with experience.

Requirements
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in Washington, D.C.
- 4–6 years of legal experience, with at least 2 years focused on non-profit, tax-exempt organizations, or compliance-related work.
- In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local laws affecting tax-exempt organizations.
- Experience advising on IRS Form 990 reporting, charitable solicitation laws, lobbying restrictions, and grant compliance.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.
- Exceptional integrity, judgment, and discretion.
- Ability to work on-site in downtown DC five days a week (this is not a remote opportunity).
