The Downtown Development Authority for the City of Adrian is accepting applications for the position of DDA/Main Street Director. With a population of 20,645, the City of Adrian is a vibrant community known for its arts, parks, and cultural assets, anchored by strong higher education and civic institutions. With a historic downtown featuring shops, restaurants, and events, it is the Lenawee County seat and is near three major metropolitan areas – Toledo, Ann Arbor, and Detroit. Adrian’s Downtown Development Authority is a group of passionate volunteers dedicated to enhancing, preserving, and promoting our rich history and vibrant arts & culture through meaningful partnerships with residents, business owners and stakeholders in Downtown Adrian.
The DDA/Main Street Director will be responsible for creating and managing programs, projects, events, and board-approved strategic initiatives while also supporting fundraising and sponsorship efforts under the direction of the Adrian DDA/Main Street Board of Directors. The DDA/Main Street Director will play an essential role in the economic revitalization of the Adrian DDA/Main Street District using the Main Street Four-Point Approach (Organization, Design, Promotion, and Economic Vitality).
The Main Street Director also serves as the City’s Economic Development Coordinator, reporting directly to the Community Development Director. In this dual role, the position serves as a staff liaison to the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Board and the Local Development Finance Authority (LDFA) and supports business attraction, expansion, and retention efforts consistent with the City’s economic development strategy. Other responsibilities include budget management, grant administration and involvement in strategic planning.
Requirements
Qualifications for this position include significant knowledge/experience in one or more of the following areas: historic preservation, planning, economic development, retailing, marketing, design, volunteer management, nonprofit or DDA management, grant writing, and/or small business development. A bachelor’s degree in a related area of study may substitute for some of the desired experience. Experience or training in the national MainStreet or Economic Development Institute curriculum is preferred. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills, organizational leadership, and the ability to build collaborative relationships with business owners, volunteers, board members, and community stakeholders. Candidate must possess a valid State of Michigan driver’s license.
