Role Purpose
This role leads the transformation and operational excellence of data governance and reporting across the People Function. It is responsible for shaping and delivering the strategy for people data governance, implementing enterprise-grade analytics platforms, and embedding scalable master data management (MDM) practices with the creation of a new MDM team and is overall owner of the collection, storage, quality, modelling and provisioning of all People data. The role will ultimately enable ethical, compliant, and high-quality data usage to enable actionable insights and workforce decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Governance Leadership
- Transform and lead the People Data Governance strategy, including policy, standards, data quality, access, and compliance frameworks.
- Co-Chair the cross-functional Project & Data Governance Council and represent the People Function in enterprise governance forums.
- Embed governance practices across the data lifecycle-from collection to disposal-with a focus on privacy, ethics, and regulatory alignment (GDPR, CSRD, DPDP).
- Oversee metadata management, business glossary adoption, and conformance tracking using platforms like Collibra and Purview.
- Lead the transformation of People reporting, partnering with our People Engineering team to reduce and simplify our Workday reporting catalogue
- Partner with our BI team, and People Engineering to lead on the implementation of a newly selected People Analytics platform.
- Define and deliver a roadmap for collection and storage of all people data, and enable provisioning of data products coordinated into the flow of work.
- Manage the reporting team, ensuring delivery of timely, accurate, and actionable insights for internal and external stakeholders.
- Partner with Finance, People, and Engineering team to align reporting outputs with business needs and regulatory requirements.
- Design and implement a robust MDM framework for People data, including ownership models, stewardship roles, and data quality controls.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of unified data catalogues and authoritative data sources.
- Drive continuous improvement in data quality through audits, automation, and stakeholder engagement.
- Partner with People Services and Solutions team on the design and implementation of a People Data MDM team.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives such as Data Entitlements & Access Controls, Workforce Intelligence Hub, and Reporting Transformation Steering Committees.
- Monitor and mitigate risks across high-impact data projects, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy and technical governance.
- Represent the People Function in external advisory engagements and vendor partnerships.
- Proven leadership in data governance, reporting, and analytics within a sophisticated, global organisation.
- Deep understanding of HR data, systems (e.g., Workday), and reporting platforms.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across HR, Finance, Technology, and external vendors.
- Experience with data governance tools (Collibra, Purview), metadata management, and policy conformance tracking.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (GDPR, CSRD, DPDP) and ethical data use.
- Good communication and change leadership capabilities.
- Certification in DCAM or equivalent data governance frameworks.
- Experience in Lean Operations, process re-engineering, or operational excellence.
- Background in People Analytics, Data Science, or Business Intelligence is a plus.
