Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
The Director of Annual Giving at the University of Georgia Public Service and Outreach leads and directs the division's annual giving efforts, helping to build a culture of philanthropy and increase participation among PSO supporters. This front-line role involves strategic planning and execution of direct mail, email, and phone solicitations for the units of Public Service and Outreach. In addition, this role will generate various fundraising and strategic reports for the PSO Development Office. This position will manage an active portfolio to cultivate and solicit leadership-level annual gifts.
This role will collaborate with the central university's development office to synchronize messaging and strategy for division-wide annual giving campaigns. This position works collaboratively with PSO unit communications staff to design and implement multi-channel fundraising solicitations, including direct mail, digital campaigns, phonathons, and other methods of support. The ideal candidate will be data-driven, creative, and passionate about higher education fundraising. This is a full-time professional position with regular travel required. Additional duties may be required for special events, which may fall on nights and/or weekends. This position supervises the Sponsorship Coordinator and reports to the Director of Development for Public Service and Outreach.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with donors and stakeholders.
- Understanding of fundraising strategies, donor cultivation and stewardship.
- Knowledge of effective communication techniques and marketing strategies to engage donors.
- Proficiency in using donor management software and databases.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with donors and colleagues.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple fundraising campaigns simultaneously.
- Ability to analyze donor data and fundraising metrics to inform strategies.
- Travel both in-state and out-of-state
- Work evenings and weekends as necessary
- Driving as needed to perform job related duties.

Development and Execution of Annual Giving Solicitations
- Plan and deploy email, printed, phone, and text efforts to achieve annual giving goals for restricted and unrestricted needs with a focus on meeting unit priorities.
- Annually craft unit specific goals and measure/report progress of both dollars and donors, measure the success of various annual giving strategies.
- Determine strategy and implement a comprehensive multi-channel direct marketing plan for division-wide annual giving.
- Collaborate with the PSO communications team to create compelling content and campaigns to raise money for Public Service and Outreach through segmented and targeted appeals (direct mail/email/phonation, etc.) tailored to various constituencies (e.g., unit supporters, affinity group, giving level) as well as donor stages (e.g., donor acquisition, retention, and upgrades) through data-informed strategies.
- Execute calendar of annual fund activities and events (e.g., Dawg Day of Giving) with associated deadlines and assignments.
- Engage student scholars, alumni, and campus partners to enhance annual giving efforts.
- Work with units within Public Service and Outreach to coordinate targeted appeals, mail, email, newsletters, crowdfunders, etc., as approved by the Senior Director of Development.
- Coordinate and execute annual fundraising efforts with the UGA Development & Alumni Relations Annual Giving Office on central solicitations on Public Service and Outreach's behalf.
Leadership, Portfolio Development and Solicitation
- Supervise and provide strategic leadership to the Sponsorship Coordinator, aligning activity in all portfolios with division priorities.
- Develop and manage a portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects and donors.
- Conduct approximately up to 3 donor visits per month (in person or virtually) to cultivate, solicit, and steward top tier annual donors with a focus on high-end, multi-year pledges.
- Complete managerial processes critical to travel, scheduled meetings, and fundraising performance. Record all meetings, interactions, and plans in the giving & alumni database (GAIL) in a thorough and timely manner.
- Work with other development team members to identify and refer major giving prospects as appropriate.
Reporting, Collaboration and Team Participation
- Work with UGA Office of Advancement Services to collect data based on the needs of PSO's development efforts. Drive creation of the overall PSO Annual Fundraising Report. Assist PSO Communications on GAIL related messaging. Attendance at on and off-campus meetings, trainings, and events.
