About JBS
Jewish Broadcasting Service (JBS) is a pioneering Jewish media organization with decades of reach, trust, and credibility. Long before Jewish content was widely available online, JBS built a daily presence in hundreds of thousands of homes through serious, high-quality Jewish programming.
Today, JBS reaches more than 300,000 cable households each month and is actively expanding across digital platforms. The next chapter of JBS is about scale without dilution: bringing Jewish life, learning, and conversation into the future with the same depth and integrity across every channel and platform where audiences engage.
JBS is supported by a loyal donor community that believes in the mission. Some fund the work broadly. Others fund specific content they care about intensely. What they share is trust and an expectation that JBS will steward both their values and their dollars with excellence.
The Opportunity. This is a build-and-scale moment.
JBS is entering its next stage of growth and fundraising is central to making that future real. We are looking for a Director of Development who is excited to own the engine behind that growth: the data, the systems, the strategy, and the execution that turn belief into sustained revenue.
The Director of Development will work closely with the CEO and the Vice President, Development & Administration, with real ownership, not just influence, over how fundraising runs day to day and how it evolves. This role is about strengthening what already works and upgrading the infrastructure required for what comes next.
The development function is lean and still being built. That’s intentional. This role is for someone who likes unfinished systems, sees opportunity in ambiguity, and knows how to turn complexity into clarity.
What You’ll Own
Data, Systems & Fundraising Operations. This role is deeply operational and deeply analytical.
- Own donor data, reporting, and performance analysis
- Improve how JBS uses its CRM and fundraising tools
- Build dashboards that actually guide decisions (not vanity reports)
- Create clean workflows that reduce manual work and human error
- Ensure accuracy, compliance, and discipline across fundraising operations
Fundraising Growth & Strategy
- Drive year-over-year growth in annual fundraising
- Strengthen and scale individual giving across a large, loyal donor base
- Increase donor retention, average gift size, and donor upgrades
- Design smarter, segmented campaigns based on donor behavior and data
- Partner with the CEO on major donor strategy and follow-up
Foundation & Institutional Giving (Major Growth Area)
- Build and lead JBS’s foundation fundraising strategy, an area with significant upside
- Identify and cultivate foundations aligned with JBS’s mission and unique value proposition
- Translate audience reach, scale, loyalty, and content into compelling cases for support
- Manage proposals, reporting, and foundation relationships in partnership with the CEO
- Help diversify revenue while preserving the strength of individual giving
- Develop foundation and institutional proposals that are grounded in a deep understanding of JBS programming, audience reach, and cultural relevance
Programming, Marketing & Revenue Integration
- Work closely with Programming and Marketing leadership to stay deeply informed about JBS’s editorial priorities, upcoming series, special initiatives, and long-term content strategy
- Help shape how programming is positioned to donors, sponsors, and partners, not just what is funded, but why it matters
- Creatively develop thematic funding opportunities, including bundled sponsorships, series support, special initiatives, calendar-based programming, and one-off pitches
- Translate Jewish values, communal relevance, and editorial vision into funding narratives that resonate with individual donors, foundations, and institutional partners
- Collaborate on packaging opportunities that align programming with donor interests, sponsorships, and strategic partnerships, without compromising editorial integrity
- Serve as a connective tissue between Development, Programming, and Marketing so fundraising strategy is always informed, timely, and mission-driven
Requirements
What This Role Requires
This role requires a builder mindset grounded in execution. You are motivated by the JBS mission and clear-eyed about what it takes to scale it. You understand that growth comes from disciplined execution, strong systems, and rigorous use of data.
You are comfortable operating at a senior level while also getting your hands in the details. You care about clean data, clear processes, and knowing what is actually happening. You believe fundraising improves when systems are tight, information is reliable, and decisions are evidence-based. You are intellectually curious about content and culture. You care about what is being programmed and why. You are comfortable engaging with programming strategy and understand how editorial vision, Jewish values, and audience impact translate into meaningful funding opportunities. You understand that strong fundraising is not only transactional, but contextual, narrative-driven, and deeply informed by content.
