OverviewGresham, OR | Nestled in between Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams, our course is situated in a protective mountain bowl, surrounded by tall fir trees with numerous wetlands, lakes and creeks throughout the beautiful scenery. Persimmon Country Club also has a host of club amenities, including tennis courts, a Jr. Olympic-size swimming pool, a fitness facility and a full-size practice range with a nearby short-game area and putting green. Our club's beautiful clubhouse, serves as the centerpiece for member dining and socializing. With breathtaking views of the golf course and the variety of meeting rooms and banquet facilities available, we are perfect for business dinners, wedding receptions and fundraising galas.
The Position | The Director of Instruction (DOI) is responsible for organizing, budgeting, developing, promoting, scheduling, and conducting golf instruction programs that meet customer demands and needs. Working with the Head Golf Professional, General Manager, Superintendent and Golf Professional Staff, this position will manage and maintain the Teaching Facilities, assure consistently high-quality service levels, and promote Persimmon Country Club.
This position reports to the Head Golf Professional and works with First Assistant Professional. Further, the DOI plays a "Coaching Role" for: Assistant Professionals, Teaching Professionals, Golf Range Staff
Experience Required
PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES & QUALIFICATIONS
- PGA Member and/or LPGA Member "in good standing"
- High End Private Golf Club Teaching/Coaching Experience
- Extensive experience in golf instruction and player development programs
- Strong background in club fitting and knowledge of current manufacturers offerings preferred
- Self-Motivated, capable promoter who also understands the context of our Club, and engage members to help them play better, shoot lower scores and be more connected within the overall fabric of the Club
- No matter the age, gender, skill level or handicap, capable of delivering attentive, responsive and memorable coaching experiences for our membership
- Strong verbal communication, written communication, and organizational skills
- Computer skills and ability to utilize current teaching technology required (e.g. launch monitors, swing monitors and aids)
Essential Responsibilities
- Create and implement instructional programs to enhance service, drive participation, and maintain interest/enthusiasm among membership.
- Eligible to teach non-member lessons
- Oversee all lesson and instructional program schedules at the facility.
- Train golf professionals on golf instruction, teaching philosophies and the management of programs to include clinics, juniors, group, private lessons, player development and special population lessons.
- Participate in weekly Golf Operation meetings and be an active Persimmon team member.
- Oversee driving range and practice facility needs, communicating with Head Golf Professional and Outside Service staff.
- If needed, assist with tournament operations including member events, group outings and club sponsored events.
- Play Golf with all membership types and groups.
- Stay up to date on the latest club technology, fitting equipment and teaching methods.
- Be knowledgeable of and promote all club activities and services.
Creative Ability
- Create instructional programs to enhance service and maintain interest with our diverse membership.
- Assist in marketing and promotion for instruction programming
- Create player development programs to foster both a recreational, fun environment plus a competitive environment (as appropriate for each member segment).
Relationships
- Maintain regular, open contact with both supervisors and golf staff to ensure teamwork and consistency in teaching programs.
- Possess a personality trait that will make people feel welcome, reflecting favorably on the facility
- Contribute to the overall Golf Management Team in regard to the overall golf experience, by supporting key member events such as Member/Guest, Club Championship.

Compensation & Benefits
Compensation composition (*Note: posting shows "hourly", as this position is based on an hourly rate plus coaching fees from group and/or private instruction programming to sum up an "all-in" comp)
- Teaching/Coaching --> Salary "minimum salary" rate (Portland, OR) plus coaching fees (based on split as below) while providing coaching, clubfitting and similar at the practice facility or on course
- Admin/Planning/Promotion --> Base salary to cover time spent on admin projects related to "analyzing, designing, planning and promotion" of member engagement programming as defined by agreement between HP and DOI
- "Compensation Total Anticipated" calculated as an estimate of a better than average professional in the disciplines of "member engagement" (capacity, skills and delivery.) The ideal candidate should be able to earn "all-in" between $60,000 - $100,000+ in years 1 - 3 of position.
