Position Title: Executive Director
Employment Status: Full Time / Exempt - Salaried / UFCW 75 Bargaining Unit
Supervisor: Ohio House Democratic Leader
Salary: $100k - $120k
The Ohio House Democratic Caucus seeks an individual to provide critical leadership to oversee the campaign and accountability operation of the political arm of the House Democrats. The Executive Director will oversee, under the direction of the Democratic Leader, all operations of the organization including staff management, campaign oversight, fundraising, and long term sustainability of the caucus. The ideal candidate will be both visionary and a strategic tactician who can manage and work with a diverse elected leaders, candidates, staff, partners, and donors to support and grow the organization and elect Democrats.
Compensation
Salary is negotiable depending on experience. Benefits include health, vision, dental, life insurance, and flexible paid time off per the UFCW Local 75 collective bargaining agreement. Requirements
Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the Ohio House Democratic Leader, the Executive Director is responsible for the following:
- Recruit, manage, and mentor all staff working for the OHDC;
- Develop and execute a campaign plan for the cycle and a long term strategic plan for the organization;
- Recruit, train, and support elected leaders and candidates running for the Ohio House;
- Develop critical communications with donors, activists, stakeholders, partners, consultants, allied organizations, and key constituencies, and seek out and use new and innovative communications tools;
- Manage the budget of the organization and ensure that all reporting and compliance is accurate and complete;
- Provide leadership and support to Ohio House campaigns;
- Raise funds by meeting with donors, doing regular call time, attending major donor meetings, and supporting fundraising events as needed;
- Develop and maintain key relationships with elected leaders, stakeholders, partners, and others throughout the state;
- Create, maintain, and enforce organizational policies that provide a stable and healthy, long-term organization;
- Manage vendor and consultant relationships, contracts, and work products;
- Oversee other aspects of the organization;
- And all other duties as assigned by the Ohio House Democratic Leader.
Performance Expectations
As the head of the Ohio House Democratic Caucus, the Executive Director must:
- Effectively lead the organization for growth and success. Forge strong partnerships with elected leaders, candidates, staff, grasstops and grassroots stakeholders, and partners.
- Plan and execute strategies effectively, meet deadlines, have a responsive and collaborative communication style.
- Be a respected leader in the Democratic movement.
- Adhere to the highest ethical standards in management, governance, and fund development.
- Convey a professional and positive image and attitude regarding the organization and our elected members and candidates. Demonstrate commitment to continued professional growth and development.
- Frequent local travel including occasional overnight or out-of-state travel will be required for meetings with elected leaders, candidates, partners, donors, reporters/editorial boards, and for conferences. Must be available for frequent evening and weekend work.
Qualifications
- A solid understanding of modern campaign practices, thinking outside of the box, working well with diverse coalitions, and being able to raise funds from donors.
- A track record of success designing and delivering results on political, legislative, and/or electoral programs, plans, and campaigns;
- An approach to management that is empowers others and develops leadership;
- Experience developing strong partnerships with elected leaders, candidates, grasstops and grassroots stakeholders, donors, and partners; and
- A belief that our mission matters and that electing Democrats to the Ohio House is critical in moving Ohio forward.
