ABOUT THE POSITION
Symphony Space seeks a highly motivated and talented writer for its Manager of Institutional Giving position. Reporting to the Director of Development, this position is an integral part of the Development team and works with members of the entire staff to coordinate and implement all foundation, corporate, and government outreach initiatives. This role requires strong writing, project management, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Requirements
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working with the Executive Director and Director of Development to develop fundraising strategies and proposals
Managing a donor portfolio, writing and submitting compelling grant proposals, developing detailed budgets, and ensuring timely reporting to funders
Developing and implementing fundraising strategies, cultivating relationships with foundations, corporations, and government agencies to secure funding to support our mission
Stewarding relationships with institutional funders both in person at cultivation events and performances and through other forms of communications
Maintaining the institutional giving calendar and efficiently managing deadlines
Identifying, researching, and providing stewardship for institutional prospects
Attending Symphony Space programs and events, as needed
DESIRED SKILLS & TRAITS:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years institutional fundraising experience with a solid understanding of the fundraising landscape of New York City.
A background in arts and culture is preferred. Additional skills and traits include:
Demonstrated success in donor cultivation and securing support from foundation, corporate, and government sources
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to inspire the respect and confidence of stakeholders, fundraising prospects, and institutional funders
Exemplary organizational and budgeting skills as well as the ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects
An approach that is thoughtful, detail-oriented, and creative
Knowledge and facility with relational fundraising databases and the capacity to optimize their use in support of institutional fundraising goals
Proficiency with Microsoft and Google suites
COMPENSATION
This is a full-time, hybrid position. Annual compensation is $68-73,000, commensurate with experience. We offer a benefits package that includes health insurance, life and long-term disability insurance, flexible spending plan (FSA), annuity plan, and three weeks of vacation time.
