What You’ll Do:
This role proactively implements fundraising plans and drives business development for National Philanthropic Trust, focusing on attracting new donor-advised fund accounts and contributions. You'll build and manage relationships with financial, legal, and tax professionals, create engaging presentations, and offer technical expertise to secure new donations. You'll have an assigned territory and live in or near Chicago,
Minneapolis, Detroit, Pittsburgh, or another major city in the region. Must be willing to travel.
Salary range is $160,000 - $185,000 plus 30% annual discretionary bonus.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning and Implementation: Collaborate with development leadership to develop and execute annual business plans focused on maximizing donor growth and fundraising success.
Relationship Management: Cultivate and manage a network of professional advisors (attorneys, financial advisors, CPAs, wealth advisors, etc.) through various channels like email, phone, mail, and in-person meetings. Maintain a robust pipeline of potential donors.
Philanthropic Partnership: Partner with NPT's financial service partners to provide consultative support to their advisors on incorporating donor-advised funds into their clients' financial plans.
Presentation Expertise: Create and deliver compelling presentations tailored to various audiences, including institutional clients, investment, tax, and legal professionals, and prospective donors.
Complex-Asset Contributions: Collaborate with NPT specialists and legal counsel to support donors and their advisors in making charitable gifts of illiquid and complex assets.
Communication and Outreach: Disseminate relevant materials to advisors and existing donors, ensuring effective communication and engagement.
Client Support: Collaboratively resolve escalated inquiries and address service needs from donors and advisors regarding their donor-advised funds.
Performance Measurement: Define key performance indicators in collaboration with senior leadership to track progress and ensure successful program execution. Monitor and report on relationships and project milestones.
Business Development and Marketing: Participate in new business meetings and contribute to marketing and communications initiatives aimed at driving business growth.
Project Support: Assist with strategic projects designed to grow the organization and support the development team's efforts. Market Expertise: Stay informed of current trends and developments in the donor-advised fund, fundraising, and planned giving landscape, including competitor activity and industry advancements. Become a subject matter expert and a center of influence in your territory.
What You Bring:
In addition to the necessary skills and experience to perform the responsibilities outlined above, there are several traits that a successful Regional Director of Development will possess.
Technical:
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred or equivalent experience.
- Seven to ten years of experience in professional philanthropy, financial services, or law.
- Seven to ten years of experience in professional philanthropy, wealth management, financial services, or law, with demonstrated success in developing and managing relationships with high-net-worth individuals and their advisors.
- Experience within private banking, trust services, or investment advisory environments is highly desirable, particularly those involving donor-advised funds, charitable trusts, or complex asset giving.
- Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP), Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE), or Advanced Certified Fund-Raising Executive preferred.
- Deep understanding of the philanthropic landscape, including planned giving and the high-net-worth (HNW) community. Excellent project management skills, including the ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (particularly Excel and PowerPoint) and Salesforce CRM software.
- Strong presentation, public speaking, and business management skills.
