Description
Missoula Writing Collaborative has been teaching Montana’s kids to love to write for more than 30 years. We are currently hiring a Residency Director to directly support this work.
MWC partners with schools and communities to teach the imaginative power of language. Each year, during creative writing residencies in schools across western Montana, our writers in residence help thousands of students to express themselves, learn the power and possibilities of language, and strengthen literacy skills.
The Residency Director will work closely with the Executive Director and Board to direct MWC’s core program, Writers in the Schools. This person will be responsible for the success and sustainability of the program, and for meeting its strategic goals.
This position is .5 FTE, and approximately 20 hours per week, which will vary throughout the academic year.
Requirements
Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Supporting MWC’s mission, vision, and strategic plan in all work and with the public
- Supporting, hiring, onboarding, and managing 8+ writers in residence
- Developing and sharing curriculum materials and teaching strategy support
- Coordinating all processes for running the program smoothly throughout the year
- Communicating consistently with schools we serve and maintaining healthy relationships with school personnel
- Ensuring for high-quality programming and teaching
- Assisting with program budgeting and budget tracking
- Assisting with fundraising
Desired qualification and experience
The person in this position will find success through professionalism and excellent communication and organizational skills. They must also share our passion for literary education, poetry, and uncovering the brilliance in children.
The ideal candidate will have successful experience:
- Teaching as a classroom teacher or teaching artist
- Managing or directing programs and people
- Managing and tracking program goals and myriad administration tasks
- Understanding public schools and building strong relationships with teachers and administrators
- Working efficiently in various technologies including the Google suite (including Sheets/Excel) and learning new software
- Collaborating and building strong partnerships
