Future Chefs (futurechefs.net) prepares Boston high school students to leave high school ready for quality employment and post-secondary education. With a focus on positive youth development, Future Chefs provides culinary training and authentic work-based learning to prepare teens with the hard skills they will need to succeed in the culinary industry and most importantly the job readiness skills to succeed in any field.
Future Chefs' model is based on the belief that every student is unique and flourishes in respectful, safe, stimulating settings that provide opportunities for growth, and relationships with caring, supportive adults who honor students' lived experiences. Future Chefs occupies 5770 square feet of meeting, kitchen and office space on the first floor of The Clarion in Roxbury and is programming our space to build community-based collaborations that directly and indirectly support our mission. Future Chefs is a fiscally sponsored organization of TSNE (tsne.org). Who You AreYou are passionate about raising funds to benefit historically marginalized young people. You have a minimum of three years of experience in building and growing individual giving programs and are a committed development professional, excited about helping a small organization grow and expand its network of individual donors. You are comfortable in an informal and dynamic atmosphere and would like to use your substantial skills to further Future Chefs' mission. You have a solid foundation in best practices of development and fundraising. You have managed a portfolio of donors and have experience in annual fund implementation. You are creative in developing strategies to steward and engage donors, and how to execute that strategy. You are a natural relationship builder with donors, prospects, peers, and staff. You are able to manage up, and work with peers to accomplish the shared goals of the department. You are a direct and respectful communicator. You have strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational acumen, and project management skills to ensure that the work is effectively planned and implemented. You are agile with data, and can collect, analyze, and use data to further shared goals. You understand the power of effectively using a CRM to streamline and optimize the work of a small department. You are excited to join a team of three full-time development staff and contribute to all aspects of our collective work.
Responsibilities
This is a new position, as Future Chefs grows its development department from two to three full time positions. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Senior Individual Giving Manager is a key member of the Development team in its work to increase individual fundraising and engagement to fund Future Chefs' growing programs. The person hired will participate in shaping the strategy and direction of individual giving at Future Chefs. This position will co-create and execute an annual individual giving plan with clear goals, segments, and KPIs. The role is ideal for someone who has supported and assisted with Individual Giving and is now ready to take ownership of day-to-day execution at a community-based Boston nonprofit. Essential Functions Strategy Development and Revenue Growth
- Co-create and execute the overarching individual fundraising strategy to advance the goals and resources to grow and sustain the mission of Future Chefs.
- Work with the Director of Development to develop stretch-yet-realistic annual revenue and donor goals; track progress to goal.
- Help build the capacity of Future Chefs' Advisory Board to identify and invite new donors (toolkits, lists, and call blocks).
- Participate in events strategy and implementation to cultivate and steward major donors.
- Support all phases of individual giving including research, identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship (with a focus on renewals and upgrades).
- Own a defined portfolio of individual donors and prospects; build annual moves plans and a rolling 12-month contact/solicitation calendar.
- Schedule and conduct meetings and solicitations with donors and prospects; maintain a prospect pipeline with next-step dates.
- Manage the cultivation, solicitation and stewarding process for a portfolio of individual donors and support both the Director of Development and Executive Director in their major donor work, including co-creating solicitation strategies and briefing materials.
- Prepare briefing papers and prospect profiles, proposals, donor communications, thank you letters and other materials as needed.
- Prepare Executive Director and Director of Development for donor meetings and asks (briefs, talking points, follow-ups).
- Collaborate with the Development/Admin team on donor communications and agency-wide marketing efforts.
- Oversee donor communications such as thank-you letters, impact reports, and updates.
- Track and reconcile income, special gifts and multi-year pledges in coordination with Finance/Grants functions.
- Manage individual giving data through our CRM to support donor cultivation.
Qualifications
We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.
- Minimum of 5 years' professional experience, preferably in a not-for-profit environment with focus on development and the cultivation of supporters and major donors including at least 3 years' experience in individual giving strategy and/or implementation.
- Knowledge of how to design and manage an individual fundraising strategy (annual fund, mid-level, major gifts, monthly).
- Experience with developing and maintaining productive working relationships with board members, donors, and potential prospects.
- Capacity to work effectively in a small-shop environment with evolving priorities, both as a leader and part of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Commitment to social justice and a passion for service (lived experience and community connection welcomed).
- Proficiency with CRM (e.g., Salesforce, DonorPerfect, or similar), Excel/Google Sheets, and basic reporting.
- We will consider candidates with skills and experience that are transferable to Development and Individual Giving work.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekend events
- Must pass CORI/SORI background check

- Reach; traverse; sit (usually for longer periods of time); occasionally ascend/descend; and position self (to) move;
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds;
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate;
