Description
Job Summary:The Spirit Director is responsible for leading the TCU Spirit Staff by providing administrative support and technical training to the TCU Cheerleading Squads, Dance Team, Mascot Program, and Rangers Program, as well as overseeing the planning and coordination of various Spirit activities, events, and initiatives.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Leads a team of Spirit Staff in the planning, evaluation, and execution of initiatives aimed at enhancing overall school spirit, including but not limited to the Cheerleaders (All Girl and CoEd Teams), Dance Team (Showgirls), Mascot (SuperFrog), and Rangers Program.
2. Collaborates with TCU Band leadership to plan and coordinate appearances, performances, and other campus events suppurated by both groups.
3. In collaboration with other Spirit Staff, prepares, organizes, and attends all practice sessions, games, pep rallies, performances, appearances, and off-season trainings, providing advising, technical instruction, and coaching support to the squad at all events.
4. Provides coaching and professional support during all out-of-town events, including accompanying the squad to and from each destination.
5. Acts as a representative for all TCU Spirit teams within various internal or external meetings. As the representative, works with Athletics Marketing staff to evaluate the game day experience and ensure TCU remains competitive amongst peers in the Big 12 Conference.
6. Serves as the contact person for all TCU Spirit Appearances and assists in maintaining appearance schedules for various TCU Spirit teams.
7. Provides fiscal oversight and manages program finances by scheduling and approving expenditures, allocating program funds responsibly, and developing budget recommendations.
8. Plans, coordinates, and oversees the implementation of Spirit fundraising activities, tryout and recruitment events, and pre-camp/camp activities.
9. Reviews the Spirit Program Policies and Procedures Handbook annually and as needed for updates and to ensure accuracy. Upholds staff and squad members adherence to policies and procedures.
10. Monitors the academic progress of squad members and serves as a supportive resource for personal matters, including nutrition, social challenges, and family situations. Provides appropriate referrals to TCU resources for additional support when needed.
11. Maintains regular office hours and attends department administrative planning meeting as needed.
12. Oversees the recruitment, training, guidance, and evaluation of Spirit Staff to ensure program excellence.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree.
• Three years of work experience with a collegiate, cheerleader, or dance team, including experience serving as a leader or mentor advising others
Preferred Education & Experience:
• Work experience with a collegiate team in a professional setting
• Five or more years work experience with a collegiate, cheerleader, or dance team, including experience serving as a leader or mentor advising others

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge of basic advising and counseling techniques.
• Knowledge and understanding of college student development and learning.
• Knowledge of teaching, coaching and current trends in cheerleading and dance.
• Knowledge of crowd involvement and safety measures.
• Skill in planning and organizing performances.
• Skill in communication, presentation and interpersonal techniques.
• Ability to be involved in either NCA or UCA.
• Ability to obtain AACCA Certification.
• Ability to lead a team and multi-task
• Ability to adhere to and support university spirit squad priorities, philosophy and guidelines.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.

• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.

Work Environment:
• Work is indoors/outdoors and not sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.

• This is an on-campus and in-person role.
