Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President, Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, the Sr. Major Gifts Officer will manage a portfolio of 150 donors and prospects. This individual will personally identify, cultivate, solicit, close and steward gifts and pledges of $25,000 or more toward a personal goal of $1MM+ and an annual departmental goal $10,000,000.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work in conjunction with the Vice President, members of the team and Leadership in identifying potential donors, developing strategies, and updating prospects on key initiatives at LTU.
Lead the process of identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing and stewarding major gifts and planned giving prospects to ensure that fundraising goals are met.
Assist with the development and execution of a solicitation plan with an emphasis on personal face-to-face visits done offsite.
Develop a tiered system of major gift prospects and facilitate the movement of those prospects through the various stages of giving.
Actively participate in regular prospect management (pipeline) /strategy meetings with LTU PAE Leadership.
Proactively enter timely prospect action reports in Raiser’s Edge database documenting contacts, solicitations, meetings and notes.
Assist the VP in executing major donor related events and attend key LTU events.
Manage information flow between donors and prospects, program staff and Leadership.
Coordinate virtual and in-person meetings to cultivate donor and prospect relationships.
Prepare written materials such as proposals, and reports.
Record and report on key metrics.
Work collaboratively with the development team to facilitate reporting, research, and analysis.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles.
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required.
Must be a self-starter with sound judgement who can work independently, solve problems, handle confidential information, and navigate sensitive situations.
Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team required.
A clear understanding of the mission, values, and traditions of LTU.
The position requires that the majority of the MGO’s time be spent off-site visiting prospects.
Position is Onsite, not remote.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required.
5+ years of direct fundraising experience with proven ability to solicit and close major gifts, as well as a working knowledge of planned giving fundraising and vehicles is essential.
Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, Word, Excel and PowerPoint highly preferred.
Proven experience working with and managing volunteers.
