Who We Are
Black Engineers of Canada (BEC) is a Not-for-Profit Professional Organization geared towards providing a safe environment for Black Engineers where they can aspire and become a better version of themselves. We empower and uplift the Black Engineers community, including youth and aspiring engineers, by advocating for equitable opportunities, enhancing living conditions, and promoting mental health improvement. We achieve this through robust mentorship programs, impactful networking events, innovative educational initiatives, safe spaces for difficult conversations, and dedicated research efforts. The Internship
We are searching for a Summer Intern who is a highly motivated, smart, creative, analytical, energetic individual to perform administrative, program and coordination tasks that are critical to the day-to-day running of our processes and operations in one or multiple of our different departments such as Human Resources, Partnership, Mentorship, Programs, Leadership etc depending on willingness and capacity to learn and contribute to a greater community development cause. The role requires 37 hours of work weekly for six (6) weeks between May and August this year.. The role is remote but an in-person could be required at our closest office. The internship is funded by CSJ (Canadian Summer students Job, a government of Canada program).
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- General Administrative Support
- Assist with data entry, filing, and document organization.
- Help prepare basic reports, spreadsheets, and tracking logs.
- Support scheduling, meeting coordination, and note-taking.
Program & Operations Support
- Assist program staff with event preparation, logistics, and follow-up.
- Help track program activities and participation.
- Support inventory or resource organization as needed.
Communications & Outreach Support
- Assist with updating contact lists, newsletters, or mailing lists.
- Support basic social media or website updates (if assigned).
- Help prepare simple promotional or informational material.
Research & Project Assistance
- Conduct basic research (e.g., community resources, partners, best practices).
- Support short-term projects assigned by different departments.
- Help compile information and summaries for staff review.
Team Support
- Assist different departments as needed (Programs, Administration, Communications, Fundraising, or Operations).
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas when appropriate.
- Carry out other reasonable duties to support organizational needs.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Interest in supporting community, social, or charitable initiatives.
- Enrolled in a Degree program at a College or University and is returning to school in September 2026.
- 1 - 2 years experience in professional office environment will be an added advantage
- Knowledge of computer softwares such as Office365 suites, Canva or an HRIS
- Ability to speak French will be a plus.
