Title:               Director of Operations

Hours:            40 hours per week

Supervisor:   Board of Directors

Salary:            Commensurate with experience

Founded in 1999, we work to alleviate and prevent violence by providing guidance and resources to individuals experiencing violence, by working with our criminal justice partners to hold perpetrators accountable, and by delivering our national violence prevention program, Power Up, Speak Out! to teach youth healthy relationship skills. Power Up, Speak Out! is a 5 lesson toolkit for educators that encourage middle school students to think critically about healthy relationships, power dynamics, boundaries, and consent. The Director of Operations position has specific duties and then also has shared ones in a collaborative leadership structure with the Director of Programs.


  • Review and revise operating procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal laws and policies set by the Board of Directors
  • Monitor team operations (Finance & Human Resource Director, Marketing & Outreach Coordinator, Office Coordinator, and Home Again Coordinator) to ensure program outcomes support the DSVS Strategic Plan and the annual budget.
  • Monitor budget and financial reports.
  • Write grants and ensure compliance through monitoring and grant reporting.
  • Continually expand and diversify new grant opportunities both small and large.
  • Implement strategies that address multi-dimensional fundraising growth, donor development, recognition, and stewardship practices.
  • Maintain contact with relevant community organizations and government agencies and attend pertinent meetings regarding partnerships.
  • Conduct outreach with community partners.
  • Oversee maintenance of DSVS website and the related financial functions.
  • Assist in general office duties as needed (answering phones, filing, mailings, etc.).

Personnel Management: 

  • Manage and provide performance reviews for Finance & Human Resource Director, Marketing & Outreach Coordinator, Office Coordinator, and Home Again Coordinator.
  • Ensure all personnel management issues are addressed in partnership with the Director of Programs.
  • Promote the development of Staff as professionals through staff development training, leadership training and mentoring.
  • Act as a positive role model through hard work, fairness, clear communication and flexibility.
  • Maintain high ethical standards and practices that promote a healthy, viable, and sustainable organizational structure.

Strategic Planning-in partnership with Director of Programs:

  • Implement the mission and programs of DSVS.
  • Review, revise, and implement the DSVS Strategic Plan.
  • Analyze and recommend program development and operational improvements.
  • Continually assess the vitality of partner relationships and determine how best to create, maintain and strengthen them.
  • Investigate additional fee for service opportunities.

Financial Management-in partnership with Director of Programs:

  • Share grant, fundraising, forecasting, and budget considerations with Staff.
  • Work with the Board Treasurer, Finance Committee, and Finance Director to develop annual budget and finance goals.
  • Oversee payables and receivables.
  • Monitor budget and financial reports and present them to the DSVS Board of Directors with the DSVS Treasurer.
  • Oversee the preparation and administration of DSVS budget, contracts, and financial procedures.
  • Meet regularly with the Finance

Public Relations-in partnership with Director of Programs

  • Maintain a high profile and serve as a spokesperson with media, legislators, civic groups, businesses and other organizations.
  • Maintain relationships and work with a variety of organizations.
  • Communicate with the media and general public regarding the organization’s projects and activities.

Board Management and Development-in partnership with the Director of Programs

  • Provide information and resources to best support Board functions and responsibilities.
  • Create board meeting agendas and support materials for monthly meetings.
  • Attend monthly board meetings.
  • Attend board committee meetings as scheduled.
  • Assist with Board training and development.
  • Act as a liaison between Board and Staff.


Minimum Qualifications to Apply:

    • BA/BS degree in Business or Administration or related field or 5 years of full-time related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Minimum of three years’ nonprofit organization experience with demonstrated leadership.
    • Demonstrated experience in personnel and fiscal management.
    • Experience with fundraising including grant writing, grantor relationships, and donor development.
    • Experience in program development and ability to conceptualize, implement and evaluate new projects.
    • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills including public speaking.
    • Ability to set goals and complete projects in a timely manner working independently or as a team.
    • Treat all people with dignity and a respectful attitude.
    • Maintain confidentiality of all DSVS business.
    • Submit to and pass a pre-employment criminal records background check.
