Description

The Montana World Affairs Council is seeking a dynamic and capable Executive Director to oversee its continued growth, manage its operations and represent the organization with partners, donors and other key constituencies. 

The Montana World Affairs Council (MWAC) is a non-profit organization based in Missoula, Montana that provides programs across the state.  Its purpose is to promote public awareness, education, understanding and interaction on international affairs and relations.  MWAC is a non-partisan organization promoting public knowledge and understanding of world affairs via public forums, conferences, classrooms, seminars, lectures and broad use of the media.  The organization hosts events for young people and adults that stimulate communication, cultural exchange and friendly understanding with people of other countries.  The organization sponsors distinguished speakers lectures and promotes global awareness among students and teachers across the state through Academic World Quest, EconoQuest, classroom visits and development of learning materials about other nations.

The Executive Director may reside in Missoula or Bozeman and will be responsible for implementing policies and initiatives of the Board of Directors and assisting the Board in developing the vision for the organization.  The Executive Director is expected to be the public representative of the organization, serving as principal fund raiser and spokesperson.  In close collaboration with the board and staff, the Executive Director will also be expected to expand membership, engage in mutually beneficial contact with allied organizations and persons, and be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual, corporate and foundation funding partners. The Executive Director will drive performance toward goals and measurable targets, manage the office, supervise the staff, manage the budget and oversee accounting.

Salary and benefits: $80,000+ annually, negotiable and commensurate with experience and agreed hours.  A health benefit package is available.



Requirements

Applicants must have a demonstrated history of successful leadership and possess effective oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, demonstrated judgement, tact and diplomacy, fundraising experience and abilities, computer dexterity with word processing and spreadsheet programs, knowledge of non-profit organizations, grant writing ability, non-profit financial management, and the ability to expand membership.  Interest or experience in international affairs is preferred.
