Description

The USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences Office of Advancement is looking for a creative individual to lead a dynamic team of stewardship professionals as the Director of Stewardship.

Join a team that takes pride in communicating the impact of philanthropy to new and existing donors to the college. The Director of Stewardship, reporting to the Assistant Dean of Stewardship and Advancement Operations is responsible for managing a comprehensive stewardship program that appropriately and consistently promotes interactions with and recognition of donors at all levels. This individual will oversee two stewardship professionals and will work closely with leadership to define the strategic direction of the program to enhance the donor giving experience while supporting the efforts of our gift officers.

More specifically, the director of stewardship:

  • Creates, manages and continuously improves the stewardship program that relays impact, educates donors, increases engagement and instills donor confidence in USC Dornsife.
  • Manages and oversees the administrative and daily operations of a stewardship program.
  • Ensures that donors to the University are thanked appropriately, professionally, and accurately according to gift levels, donor history, and special circumstances through oversight of all acknowledgement letters generated within Donor Relations.
  • Manages stewardship communications including student aid reporting and annual communications.
  • Manages recognition programs for first time donors and leadership annual givers, including the design of new touch points and creation of new groups such as legacy, parent and consecutive.
  • Continuously explores and implements creative approaches to donor engagement including expanding online presence and use of technology.
  • Design and implement regular donor survey techniques as well as programmatic implementations based on survey responses.
  • Stays current on emerging trends and best practices in all areas of donor relations.
  • Supervises and serves as a mentor to two stewardship professionals, contributing to their learning and professional development.
  • Partners with major gift officers to facilitate high-touch, quality stewardship engagement opportunities for individual donors.
  • Seeks to enhance current processes and implements new technology for added efficiency and improved donor experience.
  • Tracks and assesses effectiveness of stewardship touch points.
  • Annually designs the stewardship program strategic plan in coordination with the Assistant Dean.

Core Competencies:

  • A proven track record of successful supervision.
  • Knowledge of trends, models and practices as well as ability to forecast and be pro-active.
  • Experience with stewardship techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • A proven track record of creativity, innovation and high level or organization.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to policies and procedures, recommending changes when necessary.
  • Successful in maintaining relationships and stewarding donors.
  • Motivated to meet goals, produce results, and exceed expectations, and enthusiastic about accountability.
  • Knowledge of database software and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to be detailed oriented, thinking analytically, and use good judgement to make accurate decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with students, faculty, staff, university officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to prepare and manage a budget and resources.

This is a hybrid position and reports to the Downtown Los Angeles Office when in-person.

Salary Range: $93,000 - $105,000 – will commensurate with skills and experience
