Description

Senior Director of Development (Major Gift Officer V), UMSOM Program in Oncology and University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC)

Summary of Position:

The Senior Director of Development is responsible for the advancement of the vision and priorities of the Program in Oncology and the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Senior Director will report to the Associate Dean of Development for the School of Medicine. Working as a strategic partner, the Senior Director has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Executive Director of UMGCCC, and is responsible for grateful patient engagement, including major and principal gift conversations, and stewardship of departmental donors.

Led by internationally renowned thoracic oncologist, Taofeek K. Owonikoko, UMGCCC offers innovative approaches to diagnosing and treating all types of cancer, conduct cutting-edge research to bring the latest advances in cancer treatment directly to our patients, and provide cancer screening and patient education services. As part of the University of Maryland Medical System, the UMGCCC is at the forefront of successful efforts which are driving down the impact of cancer in Maryland. With 53% of patients in clinical trials representing minorities, prior experience and expertise in health disparities would be an advantage. Recognizing the size and complexity, and the promising fundraising pipeline, the successful Director will be a results-oriented, creative problem solver who seeks transformational results.

UMGCCC will conclude the Building for Life campaign for the new state-of-the-art Roslyn and Leonard Stoler Center for Advanced Medicine which will now house the Cancer Center. While external consultants have been managing the campaign since 2021, any ongoing fundraising for the new building and implementation of stewardship opportunities i.e. naming recognition as construction nears completion in 2026 will fall under the purview of the position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 80-100 major and principal gift donors. • Meet regularly with the Department leadership teams, organizing the meetings with data-driven reporting, clear and consistent documentation, and focused task-oriented principles.
