Part-Time Social Media & Website Manager (20 hrs/week) - Contract Position
ORGANIZATION
HAPA’s mission is to catalyze community empowerment and systemic change towards valuing people and ina ahead of corporate profits.
HAPA’s works on a series of interconnected Hawaii-wide campaigns to advance: fair and sustainable food systems; community-based resource stewardship; reclaiming democracy; and social and economic justice.
Fair and sustainable food systems campaigns support the transition from extractive industrial systems toward regenerative and just food systems that honor and center Kanaka Maoli traditional knowledge, practices and connection to place. We seek to increase Hawaii’s food security and mitigate climate impacts. This is HAPA’s core issue area.
Community based resource stewardship: When thinking about food security for Hawaii, we think about the interconnected web of life, mauka to makai. What happens upstream affects the ocean and what happens in coastal waters affects the land. HAPA supports this kind of holistic approach. We support campaigns and policies which support lineal descendants of communities, those who have intimate relationships to lead the way in the care for and protection of their natural resources. HAPA has engaged in various campaigns across the pae ina to restore healthy streamflow mauka to makai.
Our reclaiming democracy programs seek to demystify public policy and support grassroots community engagement in the political arena. Our cornerstone program, Kuleana Academy, provides in-depth political leadership training, including the nuts and bolts of how to run for office and work on political campaigns. This in-depth training is building a bench of pono political leadership for Hawaii.
Economic and social justice: HAPA engages in a variety of social and economic campaigns including the fight for a living wage, tax fairness and affordable housing. We seek to build the intersection between our various campaigns.
Social Media & Website Manager
Job Description:
HAPA is hiring a part-time contractor to manage HAPA’s social media and website. As a Social Media and Website Manager at HAPA, you will play a crucial role in amplifying our message and engaging with our community online. This position will also be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining HAPA's website. This role requires a creative and technically skilled individual who can translate our mission and vision into a visually appealing and user-friendly online presence that supports HAPA’s community organizing and advocacy efforts and goals.
Your social media management responsibilities will include:
- Content Creation: Developing engaging and informative social media content, including posts, graphics, and videos, that align with HAPA's mission and goals.
- Community Engagement: Building and nurturing a strong online community by responding to comments, messages, and questions in a timely and professional manner.
- Platform Management: Managing and optimizing HAPA's social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other relevant platforms.
- Analytics: Tracking and analyzing social media performance metrics to measure engagement, reach, and campaign effectiveness.
- Campaign Coordination: Supporting HAPA's advocacy campaigns by developing and implementing social media strategies to mobilize supporters and drive action.
Your website design and management responsibilities will include:
- Design and develop a responsive website that is accessible and optimized for various devices.
- Create and maintain website content, including text, images, and multimedia elements.
- Ensure the website is updated regularly with relevant information and resources.
- Manage the website's content management system (CMS) and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Optimize the website for search engines (SEO) to improve visibility and attract organic traffic.
- Collaborate with other team members to integrate the website with HAPA's overall communications strategy.
- Stay up-to-date on web design trends and best practices.
Compensation + Benefits
Salary range is $28-$32/hr; commensurate with experience.
Work Environment
HAPA staff work remotely and connect via bi-weekly staff meetings on zoom. However some inter-island travel may be required when it is safe to do so.

Requirements
Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of social media platforms and their best practices.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Creative and innovative mindset.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Passion for social justice and environmental issues.
- Must already live in Hawaii (can be based on any island)
- Must own or have access to laptop and internet for work and the ability to work remotely
Additional Skills (Preferred):
- Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Photoshop).
- Familiarity with social media scheduling tools (e.g., Later, Hootsuite).
- Experience with online fundraising tools.
- Knowledge of digital marketing and SEO.
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations or grassroots movements.
