Job Title:                     Development Director

Reports to:                  Executive Committee

Status:                         Full Time

Compensation:           $80K+ depending on work experience

About Our Organization

The Katy ISD Education Foundation is a non-profit organization (501(c)(3)), governed by an autonomous Board of Directors.  We operate as an independent organization, distinct and separate from Katy ISD.  Our mission is to support and enhance educational opportunities for Katy ISD teachers and students through strategic partnerships, innovative programming, and resource development.  We are seeking a dedicated Development Director to join our team.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in non-profit fundraising or development.
  • Prior experience working with school districts preferred.
  • Proven track record in securing major gifts and meeting fundraising goals.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in donor database management and other fundraising technology.
  • Superior organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Position Overview

The Development Director will play a crucial role in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting potential donors for the organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading the organization's fundraising efforts, managing fundraising campaigns, and fostering relationships with individuals, foundations, corporate sponsors, and Katy Independent School District staff. 

Key Responsibilities

Development and Fundraising

  • Provide strategic vision and leadership for current and future Katy ISD Education Foundation fundraising activities.
  • Develop and implement fundraising plans in support of the organization's goals and objectives and in compliance with the Foundation's missions, policies, and procedures.
  • Work in partnership with both Foundation and Katy ISD leaders to ensure fundraising plans align with the Katy ISD district standards as well as the Foundation’s Board of Directors’ objectives.
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward existing and potential Foundation donors.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with donors and sponsors, ensuring they are kept informed about the organization's work.
  • Monitor and report to the Executive Committee on fundraising progress by preparing regular reports and updates on fundraising efforts and accomplishments.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Katy ISD school district representatives and key stakeholders; collaborate consistently and effectively with Katy ISD Executive Director of Community Partnerships.
  • Recruit and lead volunteers in support of fundraising campaigns and events.
  • Achieve fundraising goals as set by the Development Committee

Major Gifts 

  • Implement and manage development campaigns including endowment, annual funds, direct mail, and planned giving.
  • Write, prepare, and present foundation proposals/grants to potential donors. Coordinate site visits to see grants in action.

Communications:

  • Responsible for the writing and publishing of all collateral development material.
  • Oversee accurate donor listings for any newsletters or marketing pieces, when needed.
  • Seek positive publicity opportunities and coverage.

The Development Director is expected to uphold the highest ethical standards, demonstrate an empathetic disposition and perseverance, and respect the sensitive nature of donor information. As a leader in our organization, the Development Director must be dependable and trustworthy.
