Description
OverviewUnder general direction from the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach oversees specific aspects of the sports program and helps develop strategies for developing and maintaining the Men's Women's Golf programs.
Responsible for overseeing specific aspects of the sports program including, but not limited to:
- Skill-work
- planning and execution of practice and games
- Opponent scouts/film breakdown
- On-campus and off-campus recruiting
- In-season conditioning programs
- Fundraising events
- Various administrative duties, which include team travel.
Must be attentive to detail, keep accurate records, and possess an ability to work with a diverse constituency, including but not limited to:
- Students
- Parents
- Coaches
- Faculty
- Staff administrators
- Prospective students
- Other outside contacts
The Assistant Coach reports directly to the Head Coach. Work schedule often includes: evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Essential Responsibilities
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with athletic participants, staff, and parents of student athletes.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making; be an effective problem solver.
- Strong verbal communication skills; vital for dealing with our players and staff, as well as within the larger department, alumni, and recruits and their families.
- Strong written communication skills; vital for dealing with our players and staff, as well as within the larger department, alumni, and recruits and their families.
- Specialized knowledge of the team sport or activity, as well as basic technical expertise in coaching principles. Leadership skills to mentor and develop student-athletes, assistant coaching or program instruction staff and skills in effective assistant coaching.
- Proven ability to teach specified sport to individuals and the team as a whole.
- Personal experience with specified sport.
- Superior organizational skills required in order to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong social media and online communication skills to represent the University and athletics department programs.
- Applied knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat and basic computer skills.
